Russian cargo ship set for quick delivery of supplies to ISS

The station's current crew includes NASA astronauts Drew Feustel, Ricky Arnold, and Serena Aunon-Chancellor; a European Space Agency astronaut from Germany, Alexander Gerst; and Russian cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Sergei Prokopyev.

In the near future, humans might be able to leave earth after eating breakfast, arriving at the space station in time for lunch.

Now, if you don't keep up with the minutia of space travel that might just sound like a number, so to give you some context, the previous record was five hours and 39 minutes. Now, Russia has proven that humans can get to space significantly faster.

This was Russia's third attempt to break the 6-hour record, according to space.com. In the past, it took the Progress ships up to two days to reach the space outpost.

Russia's Progress cargo ships have been keeping the space station stocked with supplies since 2000, when the first crew took up residence on the orbiting lab.

The same thing happened with the Progress 69 cargo launch in February. Again, that Progress spacecraft flew with the old two-day flight profile instead.

Progress 70 is not ready to come home yet. The vehicles look like Russia's crewed, three-module Soyuz spacecraft but can not carry people.

The ISS had a resupply mission recently that lifted off in Kazakhstan atop a Soyuz-2.1a booster. That put the spacecraft about eight minutes ahead of schedule. However, NASA has contracted private spaceflight companies to launch the agency's cargo shipments.

Ever since the mission was being prepared, NASA said speed is a goal of the mission. Another Progress cargo-delivery mission, Progress 71, is scheduled to launch in late October.
