Severe thunderstorms looming Monday afternoon across region

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for London-Middlesex, Chatham-Kent, Leamington, and Windsor-Essex. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe with torrential rain, damaging wind gusts, and large hail possible.

A heat warning has been issued for Calgary, with high temperatures hovering around 30 C expected Monday and Tuesday.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa and West Nipissing. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

It is recommended that you take cover if such weather is approaching you, ideally by going indoors and never by standing under a tree.

A break from the sweltering heat will come this evening as the wet weather brings a cold front through the region.

Temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are expected.

Extremely hot conditions put people at risk of heat stroke and people should be vigilant in monitoring their friends and family for symptoms which include high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness.

"Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place", the advisory reads.
