Solar eclipse on July 13: How to watch, timings, etc

And the next partial eclipse to occur on Friday the 13th will be on September 13, 2080.

The eclipse passed over the South Pacific and India Oceans, meaning only people on the southern Australian coast and parts of New Zealand could catch a glimpse.

Sky gazers are all set to witness the second eclipse of the season - a partial solar eclipse today. But for a solar eclipse to occur, all three of them - the earth, the moon and the sun - have to be in the same line. "People who are sick or exhausted, may not fast during the eclipse period".

The partial solar eclipse or Surya Grahan would begin on 13th July 2018 at 07:18:23 am and go on till 08:31:05 am, according to Indian local time. The total solar eclipse will occur at 3:01 pm and will end at 4:13 pm.

On average solar eclipses happen 2.4 times a year.

People who are planning to view the partial eclipse should make sure to wear proper glasses to protect their eyes from the sun (eyewear is not required to look at lunar eclipses).

According to experts the intake of food, do's and dont's during an eclipse differ too.

Researchers say the eclipse is important because it will enable astronomers to study the outer realm of the Sun, known as the corona. Ayurveda believes that in the absence of sunlight, the bacteria tend to get active.

The eclipse reached its peak over Antarctica in the early hours of this morning. The total lunar eclipse would last for one hour and 43 minutes while partial eclipses, which would precede and follow the total eclipse, would last more than an hour. There are many beliefs and myths associated with this date across the world. However, in olden days the period of solar eclipse was believed to be an inauspicious event as the main energy providing source sun is not clearly visible.

Speaking to his more than 250,000 followers Mr Begley said: "Coming up this Friday the 13th will be a partial solar eclipse". The next partial solar eclipse will take place on August 11 this year.
