Suspect Arrested In Alleged Racist Attack On Elderly Mexican Man

' He has since been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. While Rodriguez was getting assaulted, he could only hear people's voices but couldn't make out what his attackers were saying, he said.

Jones, meanwhile, is being held on $200,000 bail.

When FOX 11 asked the witness about this on Wednesday, she said she stands by her previous statements.

"And then when one of the witnesses comes out of her vehicle and starts screaming at her, four other guys come in and start kicking on him", Mendoza told KTLA.

Misbel Borjas, who lives near Rodriguez, was passing by in a vehicle when she saw Rodriguez walking and trying to pass a woman and a girl.

Rodolfo Rodriguez was beaten a week ago with a concrete block. She reportedly yelled at the man, "Go back to your country".

Jones, who is the girl's mother, then allegedly exploded, shoving Rodriguez to the ground, picking up a brick and hitting him in the face with it.

Rodriguez, who doesn't speak English, suffered broken ribs, a broken cheek bone and bruises all over his body.

Borjas had been driving by, she said, and wanted to stop, but the woman threatened to hit her auto with the brick.

Rodriguez said he doesn't know why he was attacked.

'I'm not qualified to say she deserves five years or 10 years - that's not going to heal anything or heal me.

Police said on Tuesday that a motive for the attack is still unknown.

An eyewitness told KABC that the attack started after Rodriguez passed the woman while walking down the sidewalk.

"When I tried to videotape her with my cell phone", Borjas said of the attacker, "she threw that same concrete block, tried to hit my auto". Borjas said that as she was on the phone with 911, a few men returned to assault Rodolfo Rodriguez while he was on the ground. A GoFundMe page, with a goal of $15,000, was created July 6 to help pay for Rodriguez's medical treatment.

Detectives are trying to determine if there are more suspects involved in the case, according to the news release. He recalled the attack while lying back in a reclining chair at his relatives' Willowbrook home.

His wife, meanwhile, said Rodriguez did plan to go back to his native country this month - but it was to visit the gravesite of their son who had recently died. "I'm in so much pain".
