The first blockchain phone from HTC could arrive this summer

The company has signaled that it is making good progress on plans to launch a blockchain-powered phone, betting the technology can help it disrupt the status quo in the smartphone sector as the world prepares for 5G. Although the distributed databases behind the name Blockchain are much more useful, the HTC Exodus is also all about digital currencies. The Verge wrote in May that the company planned on creating a product with "a native blockchain network that uses Exodus phones as nodes that support cryptocurrency trading between users".

HTC is going to release its upcoming blockchain-powered smartphone, the HTC Exodus, by the end of the year.

Besides, the Exodus phone will also be used for distributing the popular Ethereum-based CryptoKitties game on Android.

Considering the Finney clocks in at $1000, it sounds like we can expect iPhone X-level pricing for the Exodus, which is a fairly big risk for a company that's now struggling to find an audience.

If HTC launches the phone as promised, it would jump ahead of their competitor, the Swiss startup Sirin Labs, which is also working on a similar gadget.

Recently the far-famed blockchain-based game announced a partnership with Taiwanese phone producer HTC. "I'm excited about the opportunity it brings to decentralise the internet and reshape it for the modern user".

According to a quote from HTC's Chief Crypto Officer, the phone's focus seems to be on sensitivity to data and ownership to digital identity. One must assume that top of the line hardware will be an integral part of this blockchain smartphone, or HTC would have no chance at selling this device at all.

The HTC U12+ is likely to come with a large 6-inch LCD display with WQHD+ resolution. But many speculate that the company is riding on the success of the Q3 Exodus release, as a successful launch of this phone could see HTC move to clearer waters.

HTC is no longer among the top players in global smartphone shipments, but that doesn't mean the company has halted innovation.

The main advantage of a blockchain smartphone would be its security.
