Trump renews war of words with London's Muslim mayor

Trump's comments have overshadowed a visit where the president was greeted with British pomp and ceremony - the lavish gala dinner in his honor at Blenheim Palace last night - even as protesters tried to rain on the parade.

His visit has sparked opposition since May invited the president to a prestigious state visit when she became the first world leader to meet Trump at the White House following his inauguration.

The petition against Trump claimed an official state visit would be embarrassing for the Queen.

"If you reported them that's good", Mr Trump told the political correspondent. On Friday, several thousand people marched through central London to Trafalgar Square in protest against Mr. Trump's presence in Britain.

Campaigners will also gather outside the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, his second course, and there could be some protests at Turnberry.

Stop Trump, the group that organized the demonstration, announced the turnout to the Evening Standard.

Mr Trump arrived at the prime minister's Buckinghamshire residence by helicopter after visiting the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, Berkshire, on Friday morning.

But the war of words escalated as Labour lawmaker David Lammy said Trump's real problem with Khan was not about policy but the mayor's faith.

May pursued her strategy, the US probably wouldn't sign a trade deal with Britain.


Trump further dealt a damaging blow to May by saying he would have handled the Brexit negotiations "much differently".

Trump said May had ignored his advice on how to negotiate Britain's exit from the European Union. "I haven't been there in a long time", Trump said. May of going soft on Brexit and argued that her strategy would keep the country too aligned with the EU.

Following talks with the prime minister at her Chequers country retreat, the US president backtracked on his claim Mrs May's Brexit blueprint will "kill" hopes of any future US-UK trade deal and hailed US-UK ties as the "highest level of special".

Mr Trump repeated his call for the United Kingdom to retain the ability to sign new trade agreements once it leaves the European Union, but signalled he had received assurances from Mrs May this would be the case.

"Just make sure we can trade together, that's all that matters", he said.

"Unfortunately, there was a story that was done which was generally fine but it didn't put in what I said about the Prime Minister and I said a tremendous thing", he said. But the president told The Sun that Khan himself had "not been hospitable to a government that is very important".

Eric Trump called the report "fake news", but Dodson said he presented the president's son's remarks accurately.

He continued: "She said "don't worry it's only the press". That's another thing that makes him a supreme irritant to the president: he's not really spoiling for a fight and will not engage so as not to dignify.
