UK's May names loyalist Jeremy Hunt as foreign secretary

EPAAndrea Leadsom reportedly said she “hated” the plan but would support Mrs May

British Prime Minister Theresa May's Government imploded yesterday as Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson followed Brexit Minister David Davis in resigning over her plan for Britain's future outside the European Union (EU).

Sky News has been told that Brexiteers have "plenty more in the locker" as they seek to "inflict as much damage as possible" on Mrs May and try to force her to change course.

If a further 47 Conservative MPs send in letters it will trigger a vote of confidence in the leader. I thought yesterday that he was entirely out of line with his comment on the resignation of Boris Johnson as Foreign Minister in the cabinet of British Prime Minister May to protest her betrayal of Brexit.

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May emerges from 10 Downing Street in Westminster, London, Britain on July 9, 2018.

"There is absolutely no appetite for a leadership battle".

May's government is split between "Brexiteers" and a group that wants to stay close to the EU, Britain's biggest trading partner.

"He's been very, very nice to me, very supportive".

"With our leave date fast approaching we have no time for the mechanisms of a leadership challenge", he said.

"We need a bit of the Trumpism into our negotiations with the European Union".

"I want to see more detail from the Chequers agreement, but I feel reassured that the main issues have been addressed and delivered, including free movement of people".

All eyes are now on the next move by Brexit hardliners in May's centre-right Conservative Party.

Sturgeon went on to point out that the deal is in direct contradiction to the EU's 'four freedoms [pdf]'.

When asked directly if Trump would meet Johnson, U.S. Ambassador in London Woody Johnson told BBC Radio: "I'm not sure".

"He added life and colour".

"He said it here in Dublin previous year, that he didn't want a Norway type agreement because he felt that Britain would be rule takers - and that's the fundamental difficulty, Brexiteers are failing to grasp that when you enter an agreement with 27 other countries you agree to share a sovereignty".

Speaking at the Institute of global and European Affairs in Dublin, Minister Coveney said there had not been a clear British negotiating position for many months.

Labour deputy leader Tom Watson said: "Theresa May's Government is in meltdown".

Widdecombe, well-known in Britain as being characteristically blunt, served in government under Prime Minister John Major, and in opposition under William Hague, where she was frequently tipped as a future party leader.

"If we don't pull together, we risk the election of Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister", one cabinet minister said, summarising what was said at the meeting.

Two years after Britain voted 52 percent to 48 percent to leave the European Union, May is trying to find a middle way between two starkly differing views -within her party and the country - of the UK's relationship with Europe.

"It delivers on the vote that people gave on Brexit, it delivers the fact that we will have an end to free movement, we will have an end to the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice in the United Kingdom, we won't be sending vast contributions to the EU every year, we'll be out of the Common Agricultural Policy, out of the Common Fisheries Policy", she said. Mark Francois said Davis had been working for months on "a detailed white paper" which was "not presented to the cabinet at Chequers".
