United Kingdom makes concrete European Union trade-relations proposals anticipating Brexit

Explainer Why is Northern Ireland such a big deal in Theresa May’s Brexit negotiations

Speaking to the Sun, Trump revealed that he'd been warned about the Trump baby blimp that would be flying above Parliament Square, saying: "I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London".

Chief Brussels negotiator Michel Barnier has said the proposals must conform to European Union rules and not create extra costs as he told United States business leaders to prepare for a no deal scenario.

Mr Trump said he looked forward to finalising a post-Brexit trade deal with Britain, marking an abrupt change from the Sun newspaper article, which quoted him saying Ms May's strategy would kill such an agreement.

Trump's Brexit comments came on the same day May's government published long-awaited proposals for Britain's relations with the European Union after it leaves the bloc next year.

May's formal proposals were published on Thursday, but hours later the Sun published an interview with Trump where he appeared to side with the prime minister's critics. "She's a total professional, because when I saw her this morning I said, 'I want to apologize, because I said such good things about you"'.

Director and chief executive Liz Cameron said: "We welcome the detail provided on the UK Government's approach to mobility, including the statement of intent to operate a UK-EU Youth Mobility Scheme and visa-free travel for tourism and short-term business activity".

Without the backing of her own ranks and with a working majority of just 13, the prime minister will need to rely on opposition parties, Politico reported. However, that has angered hardliners in May's Cabinet and prompted high-level resignations in the past week, including the departure of Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who Trump called "a very talented guy".

Trump has insisted the US-UK relationship is "the highest level of special".

Organisers said 250,000 people were protesting in London and other demonstrations were expected in cities around the country, including Windsor where the U.S. President was due to have tea with Queen Elizabeth.

US First Lady Melania Trump tries her hand at lawn bowls as Philip May, right, husband of British Prime Minister Theresa May, watches on.

"The idea that we restrict freedom of speech, the right to assemble, the right to protest because somebody might be offended is a slippery slope", he told BBC radio, adding that a protest to welcome Trump was also planned. He added: "I think she maybe found it too brutal". I would actually say that she probably went the opposite way.

"I welcome President Trump's forthcoming meeting with President Putin: Open channels of communication between the USA and Russian Federation are key to managing the risks of confrontation", May said in a speech during a working dinner with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, according to quotes from her remarks provided by her office.

Melania Trump visited veterans on Friday at London's Royal Hospital Chelsea where she also met local school children, accompanied by May's husband Philip.

Blimp organizer Leo Murray told CNN the giant balloon had been created to speak to Trump "in a language that he understands, which is personal insults".
