United Kingdom parliament vote to reveal extent of anger over May's Brexit plan

Eurosceptics believe it keeps Britain too close to the European Union, and Davis, the former Brexit secretary, warned in the Financial Times on Monday it would deny the government the "freedom to run our own economy". Brexit secretary David Davis and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson resigned last week over the deal, which they said is too soft.

"The British public have votes to leave the European Union".

Despite her party being in turmoil, it is possible that Theresa May will be able to make it to the summer break unscathed.

There will be a chance for them to take revenge in the Commons today when MPs pass their judgement on amendments to another crucial piece of Brexit legislation, the Trade Bill.

The prime minister avoided all-out Tory civil war and the wrath of the Eurosceptic wing of the party less than 24 hours after she capitulated to concessions that they believed had killed off her Chequers plan.

A former U.K. Cabinet minister from the ruling Conservative Party on Monday called for a new Brexit referendum, an idea long assailed by the prime minister.

She said that would remove Britain's ability to have an independent trade policy and her government "will never stand for that".

May's leadership has been precarious since she unveiled her proposed new Brexit negotiating strategy at her Chequers residence and detailed it in a white paper last week.

"The inevitable outcome of the parliamentary arithmetic is that she will need to change it to keep the party united", he told BBC television.

"She can not be held hostage by them every time there is a hard vote in the House of Commons - and it now looks as though the Chequers plan is completely falling apart", Ms Blackman said. It is a technical bill and was not originally meant to define new trade policy.

"We need to keep our eyes on the prize. I say that's not acceptable", she told BBC television.

"Others saying perhaps we cannot have the bill at all".

The bill is also due to have its third reading on Monday, and it could be in jeopardy if the angry Tory Brexiters join with Labour, the SNP and the Lib Dems, who are expected to vote against it.

Labour MP John Mann said some of his colleagues could back May's proposals.

"And if everyone has to put a second option, everyone's going to put the Chequers deal".

"The Tory government is riding roughshod over the Scottish Parliament's voice on Brexit".
