Wimbledon Men's Final Not Moving If England Reach World Cup Showpiece

Football fans celebrating in London on Saturday as England beat Sweden to reach the World Cup semi-final

"I'm more concerned the World Cup final will have issues because the Wimbledon final is going on", he said.

Victory would put England, champions in 1966, in the final for only the second time and the match is likely to overlap with the men's final, which would normally last longer than two hours.

The club has now said spectators will be allowed to watch the World Cup semi-final against Croatia tomorrow while sitting just yards from players competing on court.

On Saturday, a stream of ticket-holders left the tennis club for nearby pubs to watch England's triumphant quarter-final after Wimbledon bosses opted not to show the game on the big screen, while others gathered around iPads and phones on site.

Wimbledon chiefs insisted again Monday that the men´s final will start at its traditional time despite clashing with a potential England World Cup triumph but will have no objection if the Centre Court crowd want to take sneak peeks of the action from Moscow on their phones.

Speaking to a group of reporters Monday morning, Richard Lewis, the club's chief executive, indicated that the prohibition would not be strictly enforced given interest in the World Cup - provided the use of the devices didn't interfere with others. The rules of entry to the grounds of SW19 had previously stated that devices "must be switched off in and around the courts of play", although the rules appear to have been relaxed with England on the verge of reaching an historic final.

"Saturday was one of the most special days I can remember at the championships".

I was out and about around the grounds and you could tell when England had scored and it was lovely, it was wonderful.

'What will happen next Sunday is Centre Court will be packed for the men's singles final and I'm sure people will be able to follow the World Cup final, ' Lewis told Independent. We didn't receive one single complaint from anyone who was here who felt their enjoyment of the tennis was interrupted and I'm sure it'll be the same next Sunday.

But Wimbledon organizers are keeping a stiff upper lip, refusing to show any football on the tournament's big screen, in an attempt to reign in any ungentlemanly behavior.

"They'll hear every point: 'Wow, love-15, 15-30'".
