A.J. McCarron did not fracture collarbone

10 Bills players on the bubble who need a big game vs. Browns

The former Bengal also suffered a shoulder injury, the team announced during the game.

Bills starting quarterback AJ McCarron reportedly suffered a hairline fracture in his right collarbone during his team's 19-17 preseason victory at Cleveland on Friday.

McCarron came to Buffalo to be the starter, but his injury could vault the rookie Allen to the job before Week 1.

Allen, selected seventh overall in this year's draft, led the first-team offense Monday and is now in competition with Nathan Peterman for the starting gig. McCarron is expected back to practice soon, the source told Schefter.

"If you start Peterman, you can pull Peterman after five weeks, you don't want to pull Allen after five weeks", Perloff said. After the Bills' preseason opener, the battle appeared to be between Peterman and McCarron - and it was Peterman who looked the most impressive at the time. Allen was the second quarterback in the game for Buffalo and went 9-of-13 for 60 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. But Friday night might've drastically altered the race. Because of Allen's performance. McCarron will likely return to practice once any soreness subsides, but as a safety measure, there is serious doubt that he will even be dressed for the Bills' third preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
