CDC: 4 cases of West Nile virus in Minnesota

All four cases the CDC says were confirmed following blood donations

No human or animal cases of West Nile virus have been detected in the state this year.

All four cases, the CDC says, were confirmed following blood donations.

The west nile virus is "out of control" right now in Butte County, this is according to the Butte County Mosquito and Vector Control District.

Cases generally tend to spike during the summer and fall months, between June and September, when activity is the most common.

Symptoms include severe headaches, fever, vomiting and diarrhea, with the agency recommending to seek immediate medical attention.

The cases, mostly in the western suburbs of Athens, mark a reappearance of the virus after an outbreak a year ago when Greek authorities registered 48 cases, resulting in five deaths.

This year, West Nile has not yet been found in a Wisconsin resident. Less than one per cent develop more serious central nervous system issues, she said.

Two positive test results for West Nile virus in Kitchener is a good reminder to residents in Waterloo region to take precautions to avoid being bit by mosquitoes, a health official says.

Additionally, on August 6, the Mississippi State Department of Health confirmed six additional cases of West Nile virus, bringing the state's 2018 total to 13 so far.

Wear long sleeves and trousers or wear repellent to help protect yourself from getting bitten.
