David de Gea: Manchester United confident goalkeeper will sign new deal

David De Gea Man Utd

That's the claim of Sky Sports News.

The 27-year-old has always been linked with a move to the Spanish giants and almost joined the club in 2015 only for a deal to fall through when the relevant paperwork was not completed on time.

That's not to suggest that he would have taken Real up on any offer though - with De Gea reportedly keen to repay the loyalty showed to him during his early struggles at Old Trafford.

That deal remains unsigned though, and Madrid still lurked in the background as a potential destination until they signed Courtois.

Manchester United chiefs are confident David de Gea will soon a new contract.

The shot-stopper - named the club's Player of the Year for the last four seasons by supporters - is committed to the Red Devils until 2019 as it stands.

His current contract is due to expire next year, but Manchester United do have the option to extend it by a further season.

United signed De Gea as a highly-rated 20-year-old from his boyhood club Atletico Madrid for £18.9 million in 2011.

The Spanish global won the Premier League's Golden Glove award last season and now earns around £180,000 a week.

With the path now clear, United hope that the task to keep De Gea has become that much easier.
