Dead fetus found on commercial plane at LaGuardia Airport

American Airlines aircrafts are seen at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Grapevine Texas. American Airlines says it will stop using plastic straws and drink stirs and replace them with biodegradable alte

By 11 a.m. Tuesday, the plane at Terminal B was cleared.

The American Airlines' jet had originated in Charlotte and had been parked in a hangar when the foetus was discovered early on Tuesday morning, the station said.

The fetus was between three to six months along.

The American Airlines flight, AA 1942, landed at LaGuardia Airport in NY around 10:45 p.m. Monday. It was the Airbus A321's only flight of the day.

The New York City Medical Examiner's Office sent out a statement Tuesday confirming that it is "investigating what we believe to be a human fetus found deceased on an airplane".

"We have no major impact to our operation this morning while we are working with law enforcement on an investigation".

American Airlines also sent out an official statement, but offered no details about what had been found. American Airlines said it was assisting police with their investigation.

The account later tweeted to a frustrated customer that planes may be delayed "due to the medical needs of a customer".
