European Tour mistakenly pays United Kingdom golfer’s $150K winnings to Florida namesake

Fleetwood won £120,000 for finishing joint 12th at The Open

If you follow golf at all you might recognize the name; British pro Tommy Fleetwood is now ranked 11th in the world and is a trendy pick for this weekend's PGA Championship at Bellerive in St. Louis.

But there appears to have been a small mixup, as the EuroTour sent the money to the wrong Tommy Fleetwood.

Instead, it was deposited into the account of another Tommy Fleetwood, an American club pro.

It was not paid, however, to the Tommy Fleetwood who played in the championship and tied for 12th at Carnoustie.

"He called it up and looked at his statement, and that's when he shouted 'Holy smoke, I've just had $154,000 paid into my account, '" Greg Thorner - the poster of the screenshot - said, per The Guardian.

This being said, he might want to give the relevant PGA offices a ring to check if they've got his proper bank details ahead of the next tournament!

World No. 11 golfer Tommy Fleetwood, who is preparing to tee off at the 100th PGA Championship on Thursday, found the situation quite humorous.

'My friend Tommy is a good guy and would always pay it back. At least he can always say he won $154,000 at the Open'.

"I honestly didn't know anything about it", he told The Guardian.

The more famous Tommy Fleetwood told The Telegraph he hadn't even noticed, which probably shouldn't be a surprise since he's earned more than $4 million in 2018 alone.

"I tried to get on their senior tour, so they have my (bank) information", he said.

His wife and manager, Clare Fleetwood, has received an apology from the European Tour and is trying to establish if the funds have been transfered to the proper account.

It's just something I don't really look at but I'll get on top of it'.
