GTA Online cheating tools banned by United States judge

A promotion for the computer game

What just happened? For all the years that it's been riding high in the Steam and console charts, GTA V's online element has been plagued by cheaters.

When it comes to the ongoing effort to stop players who cheat in Grand Theft Auto Online and halt the people infringing on trademarks and making those programs, Judge Louis Stanton of Manhattan handed Take-Two Interactive a major victory.

In its original complaint, Take-Two said Menyoo and Absolute have resulted in it losing at least $500,000.

On Thursday 16th August 2018, US District Judge Luis Stratton awarded Take-Two Interactive a preliminary injunction against David Zipperer to prevent him from selling his software. They were, and still are, available for free for use in the single-player side of GTA5, but the GTA Online versions of the mods had to be purchased with real money.

According to Stanton, the injunction would hopefully result in Take-Two to investing more in Grand Theft Auto Online, which might players and the company.

Take-Two suggested it had lost around $500,000 due to players using Zipperer's programs in the original filing, and U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton agreed, claiming that the publisher would nearly certainly show Zipperer infringed on the GTA trademark and harmed the company's sales and reputation.

At this time, it does not seem that Zipperer is required to pay the damages that Take-Two is reporting. An unfair competition claim against Zipperer was dismissed. The publisher plans to aggressively pursue legal actions against those who create programs which may detract from the experience of the game in a way that causes the company and its users' potential financial loss.
