Facebook is the biggest platform with 270 million users, out of which 60 million are interested in football.
The games will initially be shown without adverts, although Facebook is doing trials in advertising on live content in the USA which could later be replicated in its La Liga coverage.
The deal is just the latest step towards the online sector securing lucrative live football contracts after Amazon secured the rights to show 20 Premier League matches a season for three years in the United Kingdom, starting from the 2019/20 season in June.
The two companies declined to give financial details of the agreement, which runs for three seasons, but the previous rights-holder in the region, Sony Pictures Network, reportedly paid Dollars 32 million for screening rights to La Liga matches over the period 2014-18.
In June La Liga announced it had renewed its contract for five seasons, between 2019-2024, for the worldwide broadcast rights for the Spanish championship for around 4.48 billion euros - or about 896 million euros per season, a 30 percent increase over the previous agreement.
The broadcast rights of La Liga's previous matches were held by Sony, which, according to the report, paid a reported $32 million to broadcast between 2014 and 2018.
Facebook users will be able to watch the matches of the championship of Spain on football. The social media giant will also be broadcasting the matches in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Shares of Facebook were last seen up almost 1% at $181.41 on Tuesday, with a consensus analyst price target of $211.03 and a 52-week trading range of $149.02 to $218.62. Last year, Facebook bid US$600 million to stream Indian cricket but lost to Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox Inc. One out of every four IPL viewers followed the matches on a digital platform.
"We want of be ahead of time". But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Facebook will stream all 380 La Liga matches this season.
Facebook and La Liga did not announce the price of their deal.
