Man 'kept girl in cave as sex slave for 15 years'

An 83-year-old shaman known as Jago from a village in Central Sulawesi Indonesia is facing charges under sex abuse

Police in Indonesia say they have freed a 28-year-old woman who was held captive in a crevice in some rocks for 15 years. She was reported missing after her family failed to track her down.

"She was led to believe that Amrin's spirit had entered (the elderly man's) body", Iqbal said at a news conference Tuesday.

According to the police, H's family had brought her to Jago for treatment in 2003, when she was 13 years old.

"Every day, for many years, the shaman had sex with her under the pretence that he was possessed by a male spirit", local police chief Iqbal Alqudusy told AFP on Wednesday. A village resident told reporters that a neighbour contacted the police after she overheard the woman threaten to reveal her sister's whereabouts during a row with her husband. "It is obvious that he was satisfying his lust".

The shaman is alleged to have hidden the woman in the cave during the day and to have had sex with her in a nearby hut at night.

Police rescued the woman, who is now at a safe house, after receiving a tip-off from a family member.

A woman was rescued from a cave in Indonesia where she was being held captive since she was 12.

Iqbal later told Reuters the woman said she had been having intercourse with "Jin Amrin" since 2003 "but she was really having sex with JG".

Well, let's hope that the victim can recover from her ordeal and assimilate into society, while the shaman is punished appropriately if he is found guilty. His family members are also being investigated for failing to inform police. The Jakarta Post reported that the sister was married to the witch doctor's son and may have had a role in the tip-off. The victim was convinced Amrin was her boyfriend.

"Since the perpetrator was well-respected in the village, there is a possibility that there are other victims that have not yet come forward because they are afraid", Magdalena Sitorus, commissioner of the National Commission on Violence Against Women, told the Jakarta Post.
