Multiple fatalities confirmed after shooting incident in Canada

At least four people have been killed in a shooting in Fredericton, N.B., police have confirmed.

A journalist earlier reported that four shots had been heard at around 8.20am local time (12.20pm GMT).

Police are at the scene and the incident is ongoing. "We will provide more details as soon as we can", city police tweeted.

Police are telling residents to avoid the Brookside Drive area as they "investigate an ongoing incident".


Video from the scene broadcast by Canadian network CBC showed emergency vehicles on a residential road, identified by the police as Brookside Drive.

Fredericton Police are telling people to stay indoors and lock their doors. More information will be available when we can.

Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick, a province on the eastern side of the country and above ME in the USA. It was not immediately clear what caused the shooting.
