Nigerian govt finally decides between Pinnick, Giwa — FIFA ban

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Federation Internationale de Football Association had on August 14 threatened to suspend Nigeria if its offices are not handed over back to the rightful executives by 12:00 (CET) on Monday.

FIFA had threatened to suspend Nigeria from all global competitions if Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick and general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi were not given back the effective control of he NFF and its offices by 12 noon, Monday, August 20.

Mr Akande, who wrote this on his Twitter account Monday, said that the Pinnick-led NFF was the current and only executive committee.

World football governing body FIFA have confirmed that Nigeria will no longer be banned after meeting the requirements set by the global body.

In a tweet posted at 10:38 GMT, a spokesman for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said Nigeria had "already conveyed to Federation Internationale de Football Association its firm position recognising Amaju Pinnick-led NFF as the current and only NFF Exco (executive committee)".

To save themselves from the ban, the Ghanian government has sworn to take back its order of dissolving the GFA despite the serious findings in the investigation report.

The government would work with all stakeholders "to resolve (the) dispute in a timely manner", he added.

Pinnick was in Lagos on Monday, rather than the capital Abuja where NFF's headquarters are located.

FIFA stays strong in their opinion that it does not recognise Giwa as the President of the federation since he is not the elected leader.

Mohammed Sanusi, NFF's general secretary under Pinnick's leadership, said: "there are talks at the top level of government and I will confidently tell you there is no course for alarm".

Nigeria is due to play a qualifier for the 2019 African Nations Cup on September 8, but a ban could lead to an expulsion from the preliminaries.
