P.E.I. remains under heat warning

The heat in southern Saskatchewan this week isn't just uncomfortable, it's gotten to the point where it could be risky.

"Heat Warnings may be issued later this week for some interior communities", Environment Canada added.

Also affected by the heat warning are the rural municipalities of Benson, Cambria, Cymri and Souris Valley, and the towns, villages and hamlets in those RMs.

Forecasts on Thursday morning said the heat would hit its peak on Saturday, with Environment Canada predicting a high of 38 C. "Some areas towards the Manitoba border will not see the extreme heat until Friday". Temperatures will moderate somewhat through the course of the weekend. Overnight temperatures are also expected to stay high. The humidity will be low and the winds light throughout, but the UV index will be high. Watch for symptoms such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.

Forest fire smoke from Alberta and British Columbia is being blown into south central parts of Saskatchewan just as a heat wave is about to envelop in the province.

It could cause coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath for children, seniors and those with heart or lung disease.

Heat warnings are issued on P.E.I. when "daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 27 C or warmer and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 18 C or warmer", according to Environment Canada's website.
