PBT Extra: Carmelo Anthony officially a Houston Rocket now - this can work

Carmelo Anthony

But with Carmelo Anthony officially signing with the Rockets on Monday, don't expect a big step back, something I cover in this latest PBT Extra.

Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Anthony plans to sign his $2.4 million deal on Monday, according to league sources.

The Hawks finalized his buyout with the team two weeks ago, clearing the way for him to sign a deal with the Rockets once he had cleared waivers.

However, two weeks have passed since Anthony cleared waivers and he is yet to sign a contract with the Rockets, despite the fact he's been connected with the franchise nearly all the offseason.

In an interview with USA Today Sports, D'Antoni said it will be a "better fit" this time around with Anthony in Houston because the pressure will be more equally divided between the 10-time All-Star and his superstar teammates Chris Paul and James Harden. The Rockets hope the addition of Anthony will help them contend for their first title since 1995. The Rockets fell one win short of the NBA Finals, dropping the Western Conference Finals to the Warriors in seven games.

The 34-year-old Anthony averaged a career low 16.2 points in 78 games last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The third overall pick in the 2003 draft has averaged 24.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3 assists in a 15-year career that also included stints with the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks.
