Seahawks’ first-round pick Rashaad Penny reportedly having finger surgery

Running back C.J. Prosise has shot to come back this week

Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Rashaad Penny, one of the favorite "sleeper picks" of fantasy football players everywhere, will reportedly be sidelined for 3-4 weeks after suffering a broken finger in Monday's practice.

Not only that, Rapoport referred to Carson as the Seahawks' "bellcow" back.

In April, Penny became only the third running back the Seahawks drafted in the first round, after Curt Warner and Shaun Alexander. When pressed about his readiness for Week 1's contest against the Broncos, Carroll made it clear he expects Penny to suit up.

Having struggled at the running back position since Marshawn Lynch's retirement and eventual relocation to Oakland, the Seahwks find themselves in an unenviable position heading into the regular season. Prosise remained limited with a hip flexor injury.

This is as much a representation of Seattle reaching for Penny in the first round as it is Carson's ability to be a top-end back moving forward. Quarterback Russell Wilson led the team in rushes, yards, and touchdowns on the ground last season. In 2017, Seattle started the season with injured running backs who came back to be mostly ineffective.
