Storm Ernesto is heading our way with torrential rain this weekend

Tropical Storm Lane

Subtropical Storm Ernesto has recently formed over the north Atlantic and it's set to reach Ireland by Saturday night.

However, there will be a little bit of sunshine during the early hours of the day before it gradually turns misty and murky.

Northern England, parts or Ireland and southern Scotland are all most likely to feel the brunt of the heavy storm.

Chances for development will wane over the weekend when unfavorable environmental conditions will greet it in the Caribbean Sea, but the system is still expected to bring locally heavy rainfall to portions of the Lesser Antilles during the next few days.

'It is expected to track north eastward towards the UK.

"It will be slightly stronger winds and a band of rain to Northern Ireland, Wales, North West and South West England".

However, the south of England is not now set to be impacted by the storm.

Although temperatures are significantly lower than this time last month, with places such as Hull, Norwich and London just managing to top 20 degrees Celsius.

Belfast is forecasted for a peak temperature of 19C. This will then bring heavy rain and strong winds to the north-east this weekend'.

The Met Office said that by the time Ernesto hits the United Kingdom he will no longer have storm status, but he will still bring heavy rain and winds.

With the rain continuing to pour across parts of the United Kingdom this weekend, the bookies now make it a 9/4 chance that this month goes down in history as the wettest ever.

While gradual development is possible in the short-term, higher wind shear over the Caribbean will likely put a cap on things, so to speak, this weekend.
