That Palm Android phone passed through the FCC and Wi-Fi Alliance

New Palm phone could be called Pepito, might be a budget phone

Several years ago, TCL (the company that's also building BlackBerry-branded smartphones) acquired the Palm brand.

Previous reports suggest that TCL plans to release the device in the second half of 2018.

Now, Android Police has spotted filings with both the FCC and the Wi-Fi Alliance that point to a new Palm device coming later this year. The two filings don't give a lot away, but we do know that this PVG100 will offer Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and that it will only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

Considering the listings have popped up now, it is likely the phone will be formally announced soon. Theres no modern 5GHz Wi-Fi ac, so we are expecting to see a midrange device, similar to how the BlackBerry KEYOne launched with a midrange Snapdragon 625 CPU.

The device will be launching on Verizon, according to Android Police, backing up earlier rumours that the United States operator was planning to carry a new Palm device in the second half of 2018.

Meanwhile, a look at the Bluetooth SIG database reveals a listing for the phone back in June.

First of all, it has been certified by the American FCC which lists a device "Designed by Palm in San Francisco" and "Manufactured in China", with the model number PVG100.

Have you owned a Palm device in the past, or did you have an older device that ran on Palm OS?

Some people might think that the most important feature in a smartphone is its display size. Others believe it comes down to a phone's processor performance, or the amount of RAM, or how much storage ... Then again, the "companion device" description could also be dodgy placeholder text or a mistranslated description.
