Torchlight Frontiers confirmed by Perfect World, Echtra Games

Torchlight Frontiers

It makes you wonder why Runic Games was even shuttered if this new studio is basically the same team. Out of the blue, Perfect World has announced that Torchlight Frontiers is in development and will be coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Have you ever played a Torchlight game before?

The Torchlight series then spawned a sequel in Torchlight 2 back in 2012, and for those who were hoping to see what could be next, it looks like we have our answer with Torchlight Frontiers. Echtra is headed by Max Schaefer, former Blizzard North and Runic Games co-founder.

No word yet on pricing or an exact date just yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if the game ended up being a F2P title based on publisher Perfect World Entertainment's track record.

Torchlight Frontiers
Torchlight Frontiers brings the series back as a “shared-world action-RPG”

The latest iteration will be a shared-world action-RPG, bringing back numerous features and mechanics the Torchlight series is known for, with Schaefer assembling "an all-star team of developers", according to Perfect World Senior Vice President, Yoon Im. Max has put together an all-star team of developers, and we continue to be amazed by the sheer level of talent and wealth of experience that they bring to Torchlight Frontiers. In true "Torchlight" style, players will team up with friends and their devoted pets to hack and slash their way through a vibrant world, discover ancient ruins of lost civilizations, and courageous dungeons filled with riches and risky creatures, Perfect World said.

No gameplay is shown in the Torchlight Frontiers trailer.

Those attending gamescom 2018 and PAX West later this month will be the first to get their hands on it.
