Tottenham make Premier League history by completing no summer signings

Anthony Martial #11 of Manchester United and Hakimi Achraf #34 of Real Madrid go for the ball during the International Champions Cup match at Levi's Stadium

Mauricio Pochettino didn't manage to bring in any new signings this summer but the Tottenham manager expressed his delight at keeping his squad together with no key players leaving.

However, the Spurs boss could see his squad stretched this weekend as an update on TottenhamHotspur.com confirmed the north Londoners will be without at least six players for the trip to the north east to face Newcastle.

"There are many rumours during the transfer window".

Spurs had nine players who only returned to training on Monday, having been involved in the World Cup finals until the final weekend of the tournament in Russian Federation.

World Cup-winning goal keeper, Hugo Lloris was also on hand sporting a close-shaved haircut, as was South Korea's Son Heung-min who signed a new three-year contract with the club last month.

'We didn't sell players and with 25 players in the squad it is hard to add players. That is a fantastic experience, for him to translate to our team.

Rafa Benitez having an arguably even more chaotic preparation this summer, though rather than the World Cup, it is Mike Ashley that has been his overwhelming problem. "I am sure we are going to be better, no doubt about that". I am so proud about them because they were very focused on trying to arrive in a very good condition. But on £20,000-per-week he is now among the lowest paid first-team players at the club and Villa will offer a deal which better reflects his importance to the team.

Tottenham were seemingly leading the race for much of the summer, but Daniel Levy was biding his time until he could get Grealish for a bargain fee - and ended up waiting too long.

"Maybe some players will stay here to reach the level, because maybe we don't want to take risks".

"Newcastle of course in this period have an advantage to us in their preparation with the whole squad, but that is not a reason to complain".

"We need to adapt ourselves and try to be competitive". We didn't sell players and with 25 in the squad it is hard to add. And if they don't play then I don't want them to give up and start to say: 'The gaffer is a bad guy.' It's not a drama - drama is another thing.
