United States man flies plane into his home after fight with wife

Deputies confirmed the pilot 47-year-old Duane Youd died in the crash

A USA man stole a small plane and flew it into his own home following an argument with his wife.

"There were two individuals in the home at the time that the plane went in", Payson police Sgt. Noemi Sandoval said.

Police arrested Youd about 7:30 p.m. Sunday following a domestic dispute at the home near 600 E. Canyon Road, Sandoval said.

After being released on bail, Youd requested a police escort to his home where he gathered his belongings and took his pick-up truck from the driveway without incident, police said.

Within hours, Youd was taking off in the plane from Spanish Fork-Springville Airport, about 24km north of his house. Payson Police confirm there have been previous domestic violence incidents at the home.

Dodging power lines and other houses, Youd plowed the plane into the front of his house at 2.30 am.

Ms Sandoval said he was an experienced pilot.

Youd was killed and the plane was destroyed, but despite the presence of a "significant fireball", Youd's wife and child were unharmed.

Photos from the scene showed the plane wreckage in the front yard of the home.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

Online court records show that Youd agreed last month to attend marriage and family counseling sessions for six months as part of a plea agreement following an April 8 domestic violence incident in which he was charged with disorderly conduct.

It is the second weird plane incident in recent days. An airport employee who described himself as a "broken guy with a few screws loose,"stole a turboprop airplane from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Friday night, casually chatted to ground control staff as he performed aerobatic stunts, and eventually slammed the aircraft into woodland near Seattle".
