Z adds support for ninth-generation Intel Core processors

Core i9-9900K and i7-9700K turbo clocks revealed - 4.7 GHz with all eight cores

They won't be the company's Cannon Lake chips based on the 10nm process as they have been delayed until next year. As per leaked documents that the site has obtained, the Core i9-9900K will be the first mainstream desktop processor to use the Core i9 brand. It too would start at 3.6GHz, although its boost speed would top out at 4.6GHz for all cores (4.9GHz for one core) and would only support eight threads. The flagship processor will be the Core i9-9900K offering eight cores and 16 threads with a base frequency of 3.6GHz turbo boosting to 5GHz for up to two cores. Not only will this be the first mainstream desktop Core i9, but it also comes with 8 cores and 16 threads. First to be launched will be the company's unlocked, overclockable processors. Both processors operate at a base frequency of 3.6GHz but, as usual, turbo frequencies come down as more cores are utilised.

Although it was previously looking like we wouldn't see any of Intel's 9th-generation processors until early on in 2019, a new leaked document has revealed that part of the family may be seeing light of day on October 1, 2018. The chip is said to have 12MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 95W.

The table below, courtesy of WWCFTech, includes the other 9-generation chips set for release next year.

Multiple motherboard vendors have confirmed that upcoming 9000-series of Intel processors will be compatible with existing Z3xx series motherboards. However, it can turbo at 4.6 GHz maximum on all cores.
