Browns to release WR Josh Gordon

Gordon, Kirksey and DeValve out for Browns vs. Saints

"We wish Josh well". The Browns announced they will miss Sunday's contest.

On Saturday afternoon, the Browns ruled out Gordon, starting linebacker Christian Kirksey (shoulder/ankle) and backup tight end Seth DeValve (hamstring) for Sunday's game.

"For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him", Browns general manager John Dorsey said in a statement.

Reports also claim Gordon was healthy all week, then showed up late on Saturday and had a hamstring injury all of a sudden.

Indicating the release of Gordon will not take place until Monday, the Browns have been fielding trade calls for the services of the wide receiver.

Gordon missed the majority of training camp, taking time to make a concerted effort to improve his mental and physical health. Gordon was slowed by a hamstring issue when he finally reported, but it's not clear if his new injury is the same hamstring.

The Browns drafted Gordon in the second round of the 2012 supplemental draft despite his history of failed drug tests at Baylor and Utah. The jointure has seen more downs (Gordon being suspended for the 2015-2016 seasons) than ups (that magical 2013 that saw Gordon catch 87 passes and 1,646 yards.), but hope sprang eternal for Cleveland fans all around. He went on to play just five games over the next three years due to various suspensions for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
