Chuck Schumer Says Kavanaugh Allegation 'Extremely Credible'

Kavanaugh accuser comes forward as Democrats seek to block SCOTUS nomination

"She should be heard".

The testimonies "would be added to the very considerable mountain of evidence and considerations that folks will have when they weigh whether or not to vote for Judge Kavanaugh to be on the Supreme Court".

Kavanaugh and Ford had each indicated earlier Monday a willingness to testify to the Judiciary committee. As another male student looked on, Kavanaugh then groped her over her clothes and covered her mouth when she tried to scream, she said.

He went on to explain how Sen. Harry Reid (D) of Nevada, when he was Senate majority leader. These are elements it probably should have, especially if she is asking us to kill a Supreme Court nomination, at the last possible moment, based on an allegation that is nearly forty years old. Like Ford, Ms. Hill went public at the last minute.

It's unclear whether phone interviews would be sufficient to address questions from some of Grassley's GOP colleagues. Sen. Thomas went on to be confirmed.

Even to a skeptic of some elements of the #MeToo movement, there are parts of Ford's story which appear to be highly credible.

"They need to be fully vetted", Democratic Sen.

"I thought he might inadvertently kill me", Ford told the Post.

The alleged incident happened more than 30 years ago, but Banks says Ford's recollection of the event is "crystal clear".

In a new statement released Monday morning, Kavanaugh forcefully refuted Ford's allegations. The encounter ended when another man, named as Mike Judge, jumped on the two of them and she was able to leave the bedroom. Ford has said she made a decision to come forward only when her name began leaking out. Her husband, Russell Ford, recalled to the Post that she talked during their 2012 sessions about the incident, mentioning Kavanaugh's last name and that he was a federal judge who might be on the Supreme Court eventually.

"I'm glad that chairman Grassley is following standard practice and regular order", McConnell said, referring to the chairman's plan to conduct "by the book with bipartisan interviews" of Kavanaugh and his accuser.

Fox News commentator Stephen Miller (no relation to the White House staffer) offered up some of the worst takes in the aftermath of Ford's revelations. "I never saw Brett act that way". Quoting Justice Thomas from his nomination hearing, Mr. Feehery said this seems like another "high-tech lynching", this time "of a white Irish Catholic guy". Through the more than 35 years we have known him, Brett has stood out for his friendship, character, and integrity. "All the time. Especially when they are drunk".

"The right forgives Trump because he promises to be faithful to their causes, if not faithful to his wife".

The announcement comes four days after Republican members, in a committee business meeting, blocked four attempts by Democrats to subpoena the White House for the Kavanaugh documents.

Even Manley admits that Feinstein "should have broached this with others on the committee earlier". Yet, he understands why she didn't, given the senator's "cautious" nature and the fact that the writer wanted strict anonymity.

Trump said he wants a "full process" to investigate the allegations, but he also said the nomination was "very much on track".

Kavanaugh's confirmation vote before the committee is scheduled for Thursday at this point. Sens. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said the Judiciary Committee should wait to advance Kavanaugh until the committee hears from Ford.

"This has not changed", said White House spokesman Kerri Kupec on Monday.

"I asked Judge Kavanaugh when I had my final hour-long telephone call with him on Friday about the letter and the allegations that it contained", Collins said.
