Disney to Slow Down How Often It Releases Star Wars Movies

"You can expect some slowdown", Iger confirmed, before quickly clarifying that doesn't mean there's going to be a stoppage altogether.

After Han Solo's jacket - the priciest piece being auctioned - the second most expensive item is another bit of cinematic history worn by Harrison Ford: Indiana Jones' signature fedora from "Raiders of the Lost Ark", estimated to go for up to £300,000 ($397,000). Critical response was also tepid for the film, which was the subject of major reshoots before finally hitting the big screen. According to Iger, he's the one to blame for the timing of Solo. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX.

In addition to Benioff and Weiss' upcoming series of Star Wars films, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will head up a trilogy of his own, while Iron Man director Jon Favreau is now working on a live-action Star Wars television series. Notably, it will be a centerpiece offering of Disney's upcoming streaming video service that it plans to launch next year and which is being seen as potential major competition for Netflix. There was an oversaturation of the market, and Disney CEO Bob Iger takes full responsibility. Star Wars films used to arrive two to three years apart, with new trilogies only arriving once in a generation.

Iger said he and the Lucasfilm leadership are "just at the point where we're going to start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.'s". The choice initially seemed like a dream come true for Star Wars fans, but while the median remains positive, it turns out that Star Wars fatigue really is a thing for many consumers. "And the buck stops here on that". That said, don't expect Disney to wait that long between movies.

Back in 2017 Iger revealed there are Star Wars movies planned for after Episode IX going into the 2030s.

We'll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Star Wars: Episode IX when more information becomes available. However, there's another sector of fans who have had major problems with the quality of the Star Wars films that Disney has put out. We can't offer a solid answer right now, but some feel that Disney has more work to do here than simply pumping the brakes.

Reports in the weeks after Solo debuted in theaters painted a gloomy picture inside Lucasfilm, as it allegedly debated scrapping the Star Wars Story movies altogether, but the company later released a statement saying it was still developing standalone projects.
