Emery challenges Ozil to do more

Unai Emery Arsenal

Arsenal manager Unai Emery believes Saturday's trip to Newcastle United will be a "difficult" test ahead of his first visit to St James's Park.

Ozil ended his global career after the World Cup, citing "racism and disrespect" over his Turkish roots.

The Gunners held off a stubborn Cardiff City side in their last outing to claim a 3-2 victory, having previously suffered defeat by the same scoreline to Chelsea in their first away game under Unai Emery.

Arsenal have been handed an injury blow ahead of their trip to St James' Park to face Newcastle on Saturday after Lucas Torreira was injured on global duty.

Ozil has become a bit of a conundrum for Emery after the club's highest-paid player got off to a slow start to the season, which was also interrupted by an illness that fuelled rumours of a rift between the two.

As per Goal, he told reporters: "He really needs at least this season to progress, see where we go to".

"He could feel different but every day with us I look at him and he looks well and happy, working with our demands", added Emery. Aubameyang is comfortable on the wing and Lacazette proved his worth with a superb victor so I see no reason why they both shouldn't keep their places.

"I just have a feeling it might work this time". "I push him for improvements to give us the best in his qualities and performances".

"I want to find with him the possibility to do the best, to make decisive passes, to do more near and in the box to score". He is very convinced about that in my conversations with him about it. "[For] Mesut it is these two positions".
