Family: Warrant is part of smear campaign against slain Dallas man

Allison Jean and her husband Bertram Jean walk out of the church followed by their son Brandt Jean and their daughter Allisa Findley following a funeral service for Botham Shem Jean at the Greenville Avenue Church of Christ on Thursday September 13

The warrants also show that photographs, videos and laser measurements of firearm trajectory were taken in Jean's apartment and gunshot residue from his apartment's door frame and kitchen wall were collected, the WFAA story said.

The Fox headline and the promotion that marijuana was seized at Jean's apartment recalls the many instances where irrelevant information has been spread about black men and children after they have been shot by police as a means of casting doubt on their victimhood.

Allison Jean, the mother of 26-year-old Botham Jean, said Friday that her son's name was smeared by reports that police found 10.4 grams of marijuana in his apartment.

But experts on police training and psychologists are split on the credibility of Officer Amber Guyger's story.

Perhaps one of the louder moments of applause came when O'Rourke addressed the fatal shooting of Botham Jean by the hands of Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger.

His family said they were "assassinating his character". She alleges the door was open and she saw a "large silhouette" inside, and claims after her verbal commands were ignored. she shot Jean in the torso.

Guyger has since been charged with manslaughter and a quick search of her social media reveals some rather offensive posts.

'To have my son smeared in such a way, I think shows that there (are people) who are really nasty, who are really dirty and are going to cover up for the devil Amber Guyger, ' she said.

"Celebrate the life of this young man".

Now, that seed has been shattered...a different officer...a different unarmed victim. this one shot in the peace and quiet of his own home by an off-duty officer who thought that home was hers. She says it wasn't until she turned the lights on that she realized she was in the wrong apt. The search warrant states that when Guyger was trying to enter the apartment, Jean "confronted the officer at the door".

"It had a specific objective in mind", Merritt said.

Lee Merritt, the attorney representing Jean's family, criticized the searching of Jean's apartment too.

Laurence Miller, a police psychologist in Boca Raton, Florida, said that based on the current information available, Guyger appears to have "basically followed the procedure for handling a potential deadly force encounter".

Guyger was tested for drugs and alcohol after the incident but the findings of those tests have not been released.

In a written statement to The Dallas Morning News, Guyger's sister, Alana Guyger, called her "caring, loving and compassionate".

"I'm confident this district attorney's office is taking this case seriously", he said.
