Jeremy Corbyn refuses to say Brexit will definitely happen

UK to propose limitless access for EU migrants

And Labour's Brexit spokesman, Keir Starmer, received rapturous applause at his party's annual conference when he raised the prospect that staying in the European Union would be on the ballot paper.

A Doncaster councillor has won applause and cheers at the Labour Party conference today after revealing the extent of his hatred for former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

May's Conservatives and the main opposition Labour party are running largely neck and neck in opinion polls.

Published yesterday (24 September), the latest round of notices from the Department of Transport cover the implications of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union without a deal in March 2019.

Starmer said May was on course to fail these tests.

Conference delegates are expected later Tuesday to back a compromise motion leaving the option of a second Brexit referendum open but not calling for it directly.

May has a working majority of just 13 in the 650-seat parliament and divisions in her own party over Brexit mean that Labour could have a crucial role in deciding whether the deal gets through.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has so far played a canny game by allowing the debate to tie the government in knots while remaining ambiguous, but the time is nearing to reveal his hand.

Starmer received a rousing standing ovation when he told delegates: "It's right that parliament has the first say but if we need to break the impasse our options must include campaigning for a public vote and nobody is ruling out remain as an option".

"A vague or blind Brexit is a leap to nowhere, and we will have no part in it".

The motion's wording was agreed on Monday after five hours of intense talks and it disappointed many party members, who had hoped for a firm commitment to a second vote on a final Brexit deal, including the option to remain in the EU.

"It would not be in the national interest to have an election", May told reporters on board her official plane en route to NY, where she will attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Her plan to keep a close trading relationship with the European Union on goods, protect manufacturing jobs and resolve arguments over the borders of Northern Ireland, while ending unrestricted immigration from the European Union, was the only way forward.

Ms May, who has begun to take a stronger position in her Brexit negotations with Europe, strides into the United Nations building.

There would also be impacts on quality and geographic origin labels for food (such as the AOP) and on vehicle insurance, the papers say.

At the weekend Downing Street dismissed a newspaper report of contingency planning for a general election, and Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab said the idea was "for the birds".

For now, May is sticking by her plan.

The Sky News host appeared increasingly frustrated and said: "I'm going to try once again and I'm going to walk you through this one".
