Josh Gordon mistakenly started Sunday

It was just one game but it was definitely a promising one for the Steelers’ maligned defense

Now, it appears Gordon will get the official go-ahead and be on the field to start the game this coming Sunday for the Cleveland Browns.

Taylor completed only 15 of his 40 attempts for 197 yards with one touchdown against one interception against the Steelers. "I know the sentiment I am getting here is that it is him".

Taylor, who hooked up with Gordon with just under 2-minutes to play on a 17-yard touchdown to tie the game at 21, underthrew Gordon on a deep ball up the far sideline that was intercepted with 16 seconds left in regulation.

"So I've dealt with it".

There's more good news as well, as Gordon was originally expected to play just 20 snaps, but as Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram revealed, that wasn't the case.

Following the game, Jackson said he wasn't aware that Gordon was in until it was too late, adding another layer of puzzlement to the situation. Taylor found Rashard Higgins for a 38-yard pass down the right flank on the first play of the drive to set up a 1st and 10 on the Pittsburgh 17-yard-line.

On Monday, Jackson said starting Gordon was "a mistake" but refused to assign blame and insisted the team had "worked through it". He has a strong arm that could allow for Gordon to make plays down the field that should bode well for the Browns to feature that in their offensive game plan. But on Cleveland's first play, Gordon lined up wide in a three-tight end personnel package. "I did some good things, but I feel like I could have done more. I just did not see the consistency in us doing some really good things".

"We have to", he said.

"There were some chances", Jackson said, "and there were some chances where we have to do a better job of running the routes - not just Josh, I think all of our receivers - as an offensive unit, it is a thing that we have to continue to work through, and understand that when the opportunities present themselves, we have a chance to make those plays". "I think in the National Football League, that's the biggest jump for most teams - after that first week".

Jackson gave an incredulous look when presented with the notion that Taylor might be on some kind "of leash" with No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield behind him. He's got all the tools.

"His job is to get the offense to play the best that it can play". Mayfield shaved off a beard he had been growing since training camp.

Gordon, who could be targeted a few more times on Sunday expects veteran QB Tyrod Taylor to have a bounce back game against the Saints. LB Christian Kirksey was limited by shoulder and ankle issues but should be OK, Jackson said.
