Machines to do more tasks than humans by 2025

Machines will do more tasks than humans by 2025: World Economic Forum

A Bank of England study in 2015 produced some of the bleakest figures, forecasting that as many as 80 million jobs in the USA and 15 million in the United Kingdom could be lost by 2035.

Within four years, machines will displace 75 million jobs globally while creating 133 million new ones, the think tank claims. Humans are expected to work an average of 58 percent of task hours by 2022, up from the current task hours of 71%.

The WEF predicts that the rise of robotics will result in machines performing more tasks on the job than humans by 2025.

"Despite bringing widespread disruption, the advent of machine, robots and algorithm could actually have a positive impact on human employment".

There would also be "significant shifts" in the quality, location and format of new roles, the report found.

The number of full-time jobs will decrease as more companies choose to use freelancers or professional contractors. Among the roles set to experience increasing demand across all industries are data analysts and scientists, software and applications developers, and e-commerce and social media specialists, all of which are significantly based on or enhanced by technology.

The report calls on businesses and government leaders around the world to create a support system for their employees and ensure a smooth transition as the workforce evolves. Whilst the future of work will see more organisations adopt technologies such as these, their fundamental role will be to remove repetitive tasks and admin work, making way for employees to focus on more meaningful and creative work. Machines will perform the remaining 52%. "Without proactive approaches, businesses and workers may lose out", she said. Survey responses represent more than 15 million employees, and 20 developed and emerging economies which collectively represent about 70 per cent of global GDP.

Its report, The Future of Jobs 2018, foresees robots swiftly replacing humans in the accounting, client management, industrial, postal and secretarial sectors.
