Military assessment cited 'high' potential for government failure in Puerto Rico

President Trump seeks praise for Puerto Rico response as Hurricane Florence barrels toward Carolinas

On Friday night, Trump tweeted a quote from Rivera in which the broadcaster cast skepticism on the official death count in Puerto Rico.

Earlier this month, Puerto Rico's governor formally raised the death toll from Hurricane Maria to an estimated 2,975 from 64, following the study conducted by researchers at The George Washington University at the federal government's request. He's now falsely claiming that 3,000 people did not die in the wake of the devastating storm.

Trump continued to enrage his critics in a series of tweets on Friday night, casting doubt on an academic study that calculated almost 3,000 deaths in the months following Maria. He says, "Then, like magic, '3000 PEOPLE KILLED'". He has visited the USA island territory seven times since Maria hit last autumn.

When Trump visited Puerto Rico, the death toll at the time was indeed 16 people. This Twitter rant also arrives after Trump allocated nearly $10,000,000 from FEMA (The Federal Emergency Management Agency) to ICE (The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

The water was believed to be part of relief efforts after Hurricane Maria wrought devastation on the United States territory last September.

President Trump has aggressively defended the administration's response to last year's hurricanes and called the efforts to help the people of Puerto Rico an "unsung success".

Trump blamed the Democrats, but as CNN noted, initial estimates of six to 13 deaths came from Puerto Rico's public safety director, reporting figures provided by mayors.

"Trump is so vain he thinks this is about him".

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has blasted President Donald Trump for disputing the Hurricane Maria death toll, calling his actions "disrespectful". After the Hurricane become bigger, people migrated to the community of Ceiba, located in Puerto Rico Which is considered a high ground. As the Washington Post reported, Trump has been unable to get over the criticisms of his response, and insists that his administration responded properly to the crisis in Puerto Rico. "If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list".

"Mr. President- I'd very much be willing to walk you through the scientific process of the study and how [George Washington University] arrived at the excess mortality number estimate", Rosselló replied to Trump's tweet. I know probably he doesn't feel that way.

"I hate that people make it a political issue", Cora said.

Trump said the number of deaths when he visited Puerto Rico after the storm was "from 6 to 18", even though news outlets were already reporting dozens, if not hundreds, of additional casualties that were likely uncounted.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello told CBS New York on Thursday that the government had sought the study and "tried to make this process a completely independent process".

Trump's latest grumbling on the Maria death toll comes as Tropical Storm Florence inundates the Carolinas, killing at least four people.
