Minutes Jeff Fager leaving CBS after reports of inappropriate behavior

039;60 Minutes' executive producer Jeff Fager exits CBS News

Jeff Fager, the executive producer of "60 Minutes", is leaving the newsmagazine program "immediately", according to a note circulated to staff from CBS News President David Rhodes.

CBS News reported Wednesday that correspondent Jericka Duncan reached out to Fager on Sunday seeking his response to allegations made in a New Yorker story published earlier that day detailing allegations of him touching CBS employees inappropriately. "Be careful. There are people who lost their jobs trying to harm me and if you pass on these damaging claims without your own reporting to back them up that will become a serious problem". The latest allegation against Fager comes from Sarah Johansen, a former CBS intern, who told Farrow that the "60 Minutes" executive producer groped her at a work party.

CBS continues to clean house, with Jeff Fager following in the footsteps of both Les Moonves and Charlie Rose. However, he violated company policy and it is our commitment to uphold those policies at every level.

In a statement to CNN, Fager said his axing "had nothing to do with the false allegations printed in The New Yorker". "Similar frustrations about perceived inaction have prompted another woman to raise a claim of misconduct against Jeff Fager".

CBS News quoted Fager as saying that his contract had been terminated over a "harsh" text message he sent to a CBS reporter demanding that she be "fair" in covering the story.

She told Farrow the famed news division has a "boy's club" culture and female staffers referred to avoiding the "Fager arm" at work functions.

Duncan reported on the situation with Fager on Wednesday's edition of "CBS Evening News". He acknowledged that his language in the text was "harsh", but said that "although journalists received harsh demands for fairness all the time, CBS didn't like it".

CBS had been investigating Mr Moonves, 68, since he was accused of harassment in a New Yorker article in July - and fresh accusations from six more women appeared last week. "Bill Owens, who has served as executive editor at 60 Minutes since 2008, will manage the team during the search for a replacement".

Fager said he would not have thought that one note would have resulted in a dismissal after 36 years at the network, "but it did".
