New Manufacture to Overtake Old Factories With Customized Goods, Jack Ma Says

US-China trade war could last 20 years warns Jack Ma

Alibaba chairman Jack Ma said that the US-China trade war will wreck the company's pledge to help create 1 million US jobs.

"It's going to last a long time, maybe 20 years". He also acknowledged that the ongoing trade war with China's largest trade partner is hurting Alibaba's business, according to CNNMoney.

Citing the ongoing trade war between the USA and China, Mr Ma told China's Xinhua news agency: "There is no way to complete the promise".

He said the younger generation and new leadership in Alibaba will go straight ahead toward the goal, even after he steps down.

But yesterday he said: "The trade in the world really needs to be perfected, but trade is not a weapon, it can not be used for war, it should be a propeller for peace".

"The current state of affairs has already destroyed the premise the promise was made on", Ma said in an interview on Tuesday.

Ma said a lot of businesses in China and the United States will be in trouble in the short term, and eventually, Chinese firms will be forced to turn to other countries, CNN reported.

"The collaboration shows the positive impact that technology, including cloud computing, AI and IoT, can have on the planet and wildlife protection", said the President of Alibaba Cloud Simon Hu. Since then, Mr. Trump has introduced new tariffs on billions of dollars in Chinese imports as he seeks more favorable trade terms.

"As businesses continue to embark on their cloud transformation strategies to address these challenges, they can feel confident that KPMG and Alibaba Cloud teams around the world together can address their specific needs for global, scalable, cloud-based digital solutions".

Reiterating the need to focus on long-term plans instead of short-term ones, Ma called the growing dispute a "huge opportunity" and said: "If Alibaba cannot sustain and grow, no company in China can grow".

Ma's latest comments come on top of others he recently made about the escalating trade skirmish and show his support for Beijing's stance on how additional tariffs will affect businesses and the country's cornerstone One Belt One Road foreign policy initiative.

"I´m just 54, and I still have at least 16 years to do something new", Ma told Xinhua.
