Philippine President's Fiercest Critic Arrested, Posts Bail

Philippines senator Antonio Trillanes arrested after weeks holed up in Senate

One of the courts issued the arrest warrant on Tuesday. Antonio Trillanes IV is granted. Leila de Lima in February 2017, threats to impeach Vice President Leni Robredo after she criticized Duterte's drug war, threats to arrest the Ombudsman after she launched an investigation into Duterte's family finances, and the ouster of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno from the Supreme Court.

Mr. Trillanes said "darkness and evil have prevailed in the country".

"Trillanes is a threat as I am a threat, as free speech and democracy are a threat to Duterte", she wrote TIME from her cell days after the president revoked his amnesty.

"As it is, milagro ang hinintay natin from Branch 148 (We are waiting for a miracle from Branch 148)", Trillanes told Senate reporters Tuesday.

"Since Sen. Trillanes cannot produce the copy of the official application form for amnesty which he purportedly filed with DND Amnesty Committee containing the admission of guilt expressly made, it can be safely stated here that Sen".

Trillanes expressed dismay over Alameda's decision, saying the judge was pressured by the Duterte government. After being booked by police, Trillanes was escorted to a nearby court and posted bail, trailed by many journalists.

Alameda said the September 7, 2011 dismissal of the case can be considered as a void order and has no legal and binding effect considering the issuance of Proclamation No. 572. Trillanes the resulting outcome is that the order issued on September 7, 2011 dismissing the case of rebellion becomes void ab initio.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes walked out of the Senate, where he has sought refuge for weeks, and was taken by police to their headquarters in Makati city, where his fingerprints and mugshot were taken. Trillanes has strongly denied the president's claims and has provided news reports and defense department documents to counter Duterte's claims.

Trillanes received clemency after involvement in a failed 2003 coup and a mutiny four years later, both aimed at overthrowing then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, a Duterte ally who is now lower house speaker.

At past 3 p.m., Trillanes went with National Capital Region Police Office Director Guillermo Eleazar but it was not clear where their convoy was headed as of this posting. The case was also junked on September 21, 2011 on the same ground cited by RTC Branch 150.

A Philippine court issued an arrest warrant against an opposition senator on Tuesday, nearly a month after President Rodrigo Duterte revoked an amnesty granted to him in 2010.
