President Trump to visit Cherry Point as part of Florence tour

The storm is responsible for at least 37 deaths in the Carolinas and Virginia, officials say.

At least 16 rivers remained at a major flood stage with three others set to crest in the coming days in North Carolina, the state said. We love you. We miss you.

In Wilmington, the mayor said two routes into the city were now open, but people who have evacuated are asked to stay away for now, the AP reports.

One of North Carolina's largest cities still is mostly cut off by floodwaters, so food, water and tarps are being brought into Wilmington by big military trucks and helicopters.

Officials across the state are cautioning residents not to be fooled by Tuesday's sunshine, saying more floods are expected this week.

The death toll from the storm rose to at least 34 in three states, with 26 fatalities in North Carolina, as Florence's remnants brought heavy downpours to the heavily populated Northeast, triggering flooding in New Hampshire and NY state.

Dianna Wood and her husband, Lynn, survey their flooded property Tuesday in Linden, N.C., as the Little River continues to rise after Hurricane Floren.

They are asking for volunteers to pitch in and for the following supplies, including: bottled water, non-perishable canned foods and dry milk, baby supplies, toiletries, feminine products and adult diapers.

Also scheduled to attend Tuesday's briefing are the chief of the National Guard Bureau and the adjutant general of SC.

As floodwaters continued to rise, concerns grew about environmental and health dangers.

As the South continues to deal with massive flooding from the former hurricane, residents of the heavily populated Northeast are dealing with storm-related headaches of their own.

North Carolina's Emergency Management department has opened four mass feeding kitchens and has plans to open four more shortly.

It is not yet clear where in North Carolina Trump is expected to visit.

"North Carolina allows all this risky waste to be stored next to its flooding coastal - and, for that matter, inland - rivers", Frank Holleman, a senior attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center, told the Raleigh News & Observer.

He noted that landfills, hazardous waste dumps, factories, and coal ash ponds are all located near the Cape Fear and Neuse Rivers in the eastern part of the state.

He said the rainfall was fast and furious, with more than 5 inches (13 centimeters) falling in Auburn, New Hampshire, in as little as six hours. So far, several people have died after being swept up in the storm waters, and falling trees have killed two small children.

Sanderson Farms, Inc. released a statement indicated they lost a live inventory of 1.7 million head of broiler chickens out of their 20 million head total.
