Sewing needles have been found DELIBERATELY hidden inside strawberries

Australia strawberry scare NZ stock not affected

"Driving up to the coast when Hoani van Dorp bites through a strawberry and swallows half a sewing needle".

Woolworths has issued a recall of strawberries, asking customers to return strawberries purchased at stores across the country for a refund.

Authorities said that the contaminated strawberries-branded Berrylicious and Berry Obsession-came from two farms located next to each other in south-east Queensland.

"As the products have yet to be forensically examined, it is unknown if the contamination is related to the original Queensland incident or a copycat".

Detective Superintendent Terry Lawrence said people responsible for contaminating the fruit could be charged with maliciously causing grievous bodily harm.

A Woolworths spokesperson later told Starts at 60: "Woolworths takes food safety very seriously and is working closely with authorities as they investigate this matter".

"I found the other half of the needle in the strawberry".

Angela said both she and Aaron were shocked, but thankful that Mason and Koby-Rose were not injured.

It is the latest incident in what the Queensland Strawberry Growers Association believes to be the actions of a disgruntled ex-employee.

"Any strawberries bought from 13 September are safe and any strawberries that you are certain are not the brands Berry Licious and Berry Obsession are safe", Dr Young said.

(Facebook) A NSW mum has posted pictures of needles she said she found in strawberries she was eating with her children.

On Thursday, Queensland police announced they were investigating a suspected copycat incident after a metal rod was discovered on top of strawberries inside a plastic punnet at Coles in Gatton.

The initial brands affected by the contamination, Berry Licious and Berry Obsession, have already been removed from sale and are no longer in market.

A product recall is under way in three states of Australia because sewing needles have been found inside strawberries sold in supermarkets.

What's going on with the strawberries?

"He obviously bit into it, felt it, pulled it out and told the teacher "there was a needle in my fruit" and everyone was sort of gobsmacked as to why?"

It was the first time needles have been discovered in strawberries in NSW after four contaminated punnets were discovered in Queensland and NSW in recent days.

The incident follows an earlier plea from strawberry farmers for consumers to buy more strawberries as the market suffered a glut of the fresh fruit, dropping prices to A$1 (NZ$1.50) or less.

Do you know anyone who has found needles in their strawberries?

Her young son had eaten one of the strawberries at school but it had not been tampered with.

"Please be careful and crush them up before eating or just chuck them out".

Anyone with information that could assist the police investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
