US Open outburst: Umpires to boycott Serena's matches

World No. 25 Barbora Strycova has called out Serena Williams for her "bullsh-t" US Open blow-up that overshadowed 20-year-old Naomi Osaka's first grand slam victory.

"The way Serena handled the situation, I think she handled it with such grace and class".

Mouratoglou admitted afterwards that he had tried to coach Williams, who said she never saw the Frenchman's gestures.

"In my opinion, right now, yes, and it probably always has been", Katrina Adams, the CEO of the sport's governing body, told "CBS This Morning" Tuesday.

Furthermore, in embracing her new high profile, Osaka wants to serve as a role model for young Japanese children.

While the head of the U.S. Tennis Association said that both Serena Williams and the chair umpire working the women's U.S. Open championship singles match bore some responsibility for a situation that spiraled out of control Saturday, she believes there is a double standard at play when it comes to how male and female tennis players are treated.

Williams became irate and smashed her racket, leading to an actual code violation.

On Wednesday, Strycova lambasted those accusations and offered her own suggestion for the display as she went up against the Williams camp. Ramos issued another code violation, costing Williams the game. Williams was already down, and ultimately lost the final. You are the best player at the end of this event and because of the turn of events with the crowd and the booing and everything, it wasn't the way - that was the outcome I was referring to.

'Because it was my first final and my first Grand Slam victory, overall I felt really happy and I know that I accomplished a lot.

Coming to his defense was the International Tennis Federation, which in a tweet hailed his professionalism.

The drama started when Ramos handed Williams a coaching violation early in the second set because of hand gestures made from the stands by her coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

Ramos, who is from Portugal, spoke briefly to Portuguese newspaper Tribuna Expresso this week.

"I'm fine, given the circumstances", Ramos said, via the Associated Press. "Do not worry about me!"

Ings, who was the director of officiating for the ATP Tour from 2001-2005, added: "It's great the ITF has put out a message of support but the WTA needs to do something to protect the interest of umpires and make sure players show respect to officials on court".

He also chose to stay indoors the day after to avoid any angry fans.

Ramos will umpire Croatia v U.S. in the Davis Cup this weekend and ahead of that tie, United States men's captain Jim Courier told the Associated Press news agency: "It's been polarized and in some ways politicised".
