YouTube Gaming Finds New Home on Main Site

YouTube merges Gaming with main site after standalone app fails to impress

"The response to these features has been so positive that we brought them over from the YouTube Gaming app to the main YouTube experience".

YouTube Gaming, a "standalone" app that was launched in 2015, was meant to be a separate destination for all these gaming content lovers, but YouTube admits it wasn't the best, because not everyone fully understood its objective.

It's been less than a week since Google announced it will discontinue the Inbox by Gmail app effective March 2019, and the Mountain View company confirmed yet another app will meet the same fate - YouTube Gaming. As it was, YouTube Gaming was just another rather useless attempt to grab Twitch's glory.

Three years after YouTube launched its potential Twitch competitor YouTube Gaming, the company has chose to shut down its separate app. It spruced the site up with things such as special chat monetization features and channel memberships to encourage users to make money from their content. A long road trip, spotty network coverage, data caps, a boring flight, and the list goes on.

YouTube launched a new hub for gamers that integrates YouTube Gaming with the main site to put everyone's streaming and gaming-related content in one spot. YouTube, through the voice of Ryan Wyatt, director of gaming content and partnerships, has even offered a statement justifying the decision to close down the YouTube Gaming app.

He explains that outside of Ninja, the biggest gaming content creators, for example Markiplier and PewDiePie are on YouTube.

Google will cater the suggested videos to you based on what it thinks you want to see, just like with regular YouTube videos, so the more you watch the better its suggestions will become. You'd have some people that funneled through into the gaming app, or the gaming destination, but we were finding we still weren't touching many people daily. Let us know int he comments!
