Air hostess falls out of plane, suffers injuries

Air India Express damage wall

An Air India flight attendant has been injured after falling from the door of a parked aeroplane at India's Mumbai airport.

The 53-year-old woman was closing the door when she fell from the plane, reported India Today.

Air India said it is investigating. "She sustained injuries to her legs and has been taken to the hospital for further treatment", the airline said in a statement. Air India advised that they had referred the incident to the Indian civil aviation authority, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). "She is suffering from right leg compound fracture, fracture in both heels & soft tissue injury in chest, abdomen and lower spine", news agency ANI quoted Nanavati Hospital. The flight was to depart for Delhi at 7 am from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

According to officials in Nanavati Super speciality hospital, the air hostess is undergoing a series of tests.

The Air India Boeing 737 allegedly collided into an airport perimeter wall just after takeoff from Trichy Airport in Tamil Nadu, south India.

This is not the first time that Indian airlines have made headlines this year. No passengers or crew members sustained any injuries.

Exact details of how the incident occurred were not immediately clear with conflicting reports saying the aircraft had hit the "safety wall" during take-off and some reports saying it happened prior to take-off.

India's national carrier said in a statement the plane was diverted as a "precautionary measure".

The plane had 130 passengers and six crew members on board. The B777 aircraft door is about 30 feet about ground.
