Ninety-two people have been infected by an antibiotic-resistant strain of salmonella in 29 states, including MA, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the CDC, as of October 17, 92 people have been reported sick from 29 states, including Florida, and 21 people have been hospitalized.

29 people have been hospitalized from the illness, but no one has died. (See a map of reported cases here). A single, common supplier of raw chicken products or of live chickens has not been identified.

Officials have not advised stores stop selling raw chicken products or people avoid properly cooked chicken.

The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is monitoring the outbreak. The people who became sick reported buying different types of brands and types of chicken products.

Do not wash raw poultry before cooking.

Because no common supplier has been found, the CDC can not steer people away from any particular source of raw chicken. It is also suggested you don't feel raw diets to pets.

Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps 12 to 72 hours after being exposed to the bacteria.

The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment other than fluids, the CDC says.
