Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey: I won't leave in January despite contract breakdown

Aaron Ramsey is out of contract at the end of the season

According to the London Evening Standard's James Olley, both Liverpool and United are considering taking advantage of the prospect of Arsenal losing Ramsey for free in the summer by making a January bid.

Ramsey has revealed he had expected to extend his 10-year Arsenal stay after his camp felt a new deal had been agreed with the Gunners hierarchy.

The Welsh midfielder has been subject to interest from Man United in the past, nearly moving to Old Trafford instead of Arsenal as a youngster.

"Everything has been going great with the club", said Ramsey.

"He'll have a better chance of going to those top-end clubs if he's on a free transfer".

'So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal this season and I'll leave the rest with the club now'.

United were strongly linked with a move for Ramsey when the midfielder left Cardiff City in 2008.

Ramsey added: "That's a decision [Arsenal] have made and things happen in football".

"He's become conscious of some players that have stayed too long at Arsenal and not got the best out of their ability".

Upcoming January transfer window could see Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Liverpool go head to head to land Arsenal's no.8 Aaron Ramsey.

Ramsey came off the bench to finish off a spectacular team move with a neat backheel flick in the team's 5-1 win at Fulham before the worldwide break, although his starting position in the team is under renewed threat from Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery said recently that Ramsey's contract situation would not affect his performances. The Welshman's contract with the Gunners expires at the end of the season, leaving them in the same situation as with Alexis Sanchez.
