Flash Standalone Movie Pushes Start Date, Eyes 2021 Release

Actor Ezra Miller attends the 'Justice League'

Barry Allen will be late yet again, as the upcoming Flash solo movie won't go into production until late next year. This is a problem because the star of The Flash, Ezra Miller, also has a key supporting role in Fantastic Beasts. The film never received a formal greenlight nor did it have a set release date, but it had been expected to begin shooting in March. The issues don't just lie with Miller's schedule, as apparently the script still needed some fine-tuning before getting Warner Bros.' full approval.

Comic book fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see the Flash race into theaters, and Albus Dumbledore may be partly to blame for the delay. DC is trying to soft reboot their universe and I'd be fine with a little more distance between The Flash in Justice League and whatever the new take will be once his movie finally rolls around. However, a script is still being tweaked and the studio thinks that it won't enough time to get the script in shape in order for the film to make its original start date. But this same studio is now developing two Joker movies, one of which is forcing extras to pee out the side of locked subway cars and the other, even more obscene, stars Jared Leto.

The Flash may be the "fastest man alive" in the pages of DC Comics but it looks like the Scarlet Speedster is taking the slow route to reach the silver screen in his own film franchise. Both Rick Famuyiwa and Seth Grahame-Smith were attached to the project at different points in time, but departed due to creative differences.

EW knows that timelines can get tricky in the superhero world, so we compiled a complete rundown of the bumpy road for The Flash.

Ezra Miller was one of the best parts of the Justice League film.
