India vs West Indies: Statistical highlights of India’s successful chase of 323

Dhoni needs to be the solution but unfortunately his batting has been the problem

Chasing 323, India suffered an early blow when debutant Oshane Thomas struck to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan in the second over to take his maiden global wicket. Kohli brought up his 36th ODI ton, whereas Rohit Sharma slammed his 20th ton in 86 balls.

Shimron Hetmyer (L) of West Indies celebrates with teammate Jason Holder after scoring his third ODI hundred.

Kohli, who was eventually dismissed for 140, also equalled another record set by Tendulkar of scoring more than 2,000 worldwide runs in a calendar year for India for a record fifth time.

India have been in imperious form on home soil.

After their rout in the Test series, West Indies did a good job by putting on board a challenging 322 for eight, capitalising on the absence of India's frontline pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.

Hetmyer, though, launched six sixes and as many fours as he added 74 with Rovman Powell (22) and 60 with skipper Jason Holder (38) before he was caught in the deep in the 39th over slog-sweeping Ravindra Jadeja, a bowler he had blazed three of his maximums off.

For India, the only point of concern was the bowling department. But Powell and Shai Hope (32) together forged a 65-run partnership for the second wicket and took West indies past the 80-run mark.

On the other hand, West Indies will be looking to present more of a challenge after being humiliated 0-2 by India inside six days in the preceding two-match Test series.

Powell and his debutant opening partner Chandrapaul Hemraj dealt in boundaries against Shami and Yadav. West Indies lost three wickets in quick succession but the Guyana youngster came to take charge after Marlon Samuels departed for a duck in his landmark 200th ODI.
